Long-range weapons like Bows and arrows can cause a lot of damage to enemies, especially if you strike an enemy at its head. You can even equip projectiles like pebbles and knives, though the projectiles have finite supplies. You can equip two melee weapons and two long-range weapons. Every kind of weapon has its own Martial Arts, so if you don't like the ones offered, try out a different weapon to find the ones that work well with your approach to combat. However, Martial Arts strikes can be difficult to hit an opponent with, so make sure you are in the best position to strike. Martial Arts are special attacks that consume your Spirit Gauge but can pierce through an enemy's guard. Spirit Attacks are slower but deal more damage and lower the enemy's Spirit Gauge, but they also use up more of your Spirit. Normal Attacks are fast and can use multiple in a row to do combos. There are two types of basic attacks you can perform - Normal Attacks and Spirit attacks. If you press the dodge button right as an opponent is about to strike you with a powerful move like a Critical Blow, you perform a counterattack and strike back against the enemy. As long you time every move correctly, every attack can be deflected, including ones you wouldn't expect. To perform a Deflect, you press the dodge button when an enemy's attack is about to make contact with you. It allows you to keep up your own aggressive pressure while timing dodges to avoid damage and keep attacking afterward. The act of Deflecting is the most vital aspect of Wo Long's combat. Enemies will block or dodge most attacks, giving you only a limited window to damage foes. The combat in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty requires precision and patience.
